SafeSeas celebrates World Ocean Day and discusses SDG14

In the week from 5th to the 9th of June the UN Oceans Conference took place in New York to discuss how Sustainable Development Goal 14 that deals with the oceans can be implemented. SafeSeas is one of the voluntary commitments of the UK registered with the UN (#OceanAction14234). The week also saw the celebrations of world oceans day. To celebrate the oceans SafeSeas held an afternoon event in collaboration with Cardiff University’s Sustainable Places Research Institute. Our core objective was to discuss how the synergies can be developed between maritime security, the blue economy, ocean health and blue justices discourses in order to actually realise SDG14. The event was sponsored by the British Academy, and a full report is available here.
